Philadelphia Woman, 27, Fatally Shot Outside Her Home in Overnight Violence

PHILADELPHIA — A 27-year-old woman was tragically shot and killed outside her Philadelphia home early Tuesday morning, marking yet another incident of gun violence in the city. Police have identified the victim as Jasmine Johnson, who was pronounced dead just after midnight.

According to the Philadelphia Police Department, the shooting occurred at approximately 12:19 a.m. in the 3100 block of West Montgomery Avenue. Investigators said Johnson was sitting on the front porch of her residence, speaking with two people, when gunfire suddenly erupted. Struck in the back, Johnson ran inside her home but collapsed on the living room floor.

Officers who arrived at the scene discovered Johnson lying unresponsive inside the house. Emergency medical personnel pronounced her dead at 12:35 a.m., about 15 minutes after the shooting. Authorities confirmed that she had sustained a fatal gunshot wound to her back.

Investigators recovered multiple shell casings in the area, including those from a rifle and a semiautomatic handgun. Police believe the shooting may have been part of a larger exchange of gunfire, given the evidence collected at the scene. At least one bullet pierced Johnson’s home, and another struck a neighboring property, both lodging into the walls. Fortunately, no additional injuries were reported.

As of Tuesday, no arrests had been made in connection with the killing. Detectives are continuing to canvass the area, speaking with witnesses and reviewing potential surveillance footage to piece together what led to the gunfire. Authorities have not released information about the possible shooters or whether Johnson was the intended target.
