Delta State University Student Found Dead on Campus

CLEVELAND, Miss. – Delta State University is reeling after the tragic death of a student whose body was discovered on campus Monday morning. Authorities confirmed that the student, 21-year-old Demartravion “Trey” Reed of Grenada, Mississippi, was found hanging from a tree near the pickleball courts around 7:00 a.m. on September 15, 2025.

University Police Chief Mike Peeler stated that foul play is not suspected at this time. The Bolivar County Coroner’s Office has taken custody of Reed’s body, and an autopsy will be performed to confirm the official cause of death. While the investigation is ongoing, officials indicated there were no immediate signs of criminal activity surrounding the incident.

In response to the discovery, Delta State University canceled all classes and Centennial events scheduled for Monday. School leaders explained that the decision was made to allow students, faculty, and staff time to grieve and come together as a community.
