PROVIDENCE, R.I. — Authorities are investigating a tragic motorcycle crash that claimed the life of a Massachusetts man Sunday afternoon along Route 6 west, near the Route 10 south interchange in Providence. The collision occurred shortly after 5:30 p.m., according to the Rhode Island State Police.
Emergency crews, including state troopers and the Providence Fire Department, arrived to find a black Kawasaki motorcycle lying on its side in the travel lane. The rider, identified as 26-year-old Cedrix Teixeira of Bridgewater, Massachusetts, had sustained severe injuries. Despite efforts by first responders, Teixeira was later pronounced dead at Rhode Island Hospital.
Investigators believe Teixeira’s motorcycle may have struck a high-speed barrier while navigating a curve, causing him to lose control and be ejected from the vehicle. The impact threw him from the Route 6 overpass, sending him approximately 60 feet down onto a dirt embankment. Authorities confirmed that the crash involved only one vehicle and that no other motorists were impacted.
State police are now examining multiple factors, including roadway design, speed, mechanical condition of the motorcycle, and environmental conditions at the time of the crash. Troopers are also reviewing the structure of the overpass and its barriers to determine how the accident unfolded. Investigators have urged anyone who may have witnessed the collision or observed the motorcycle prior to the crash to contact them with information that could assist in their inquiry.
Officials said the crash highlights the importance of caution and safety awareness for motorcyclists, especially on high-speed routes and elevated interchanges.
