23-Year-Old Woman Fatally Shot in Winton Hills; Suspect Charged with Murder

CINCINNATI — A late-night shooting in the Winton Hills neighborhood claimed the life of a young woman on Sunday, prompting a swift investigation and arrest by Cincinnati police.

Authorities said officers were called to Kings Run Court around 10:45 p.m. after reports of gunfire in the area. When they arrived, they discovered 23-year-old Rachel Counts suffering from gunshot wounds. Emergency crews immediately began life-saving measures, but despite their efforts, Counts was pronounced dead at the scene.

Early Monday morning, detectives from the Cincinnati Police Department’s Homicide Unit arrested 23-year-old Omarion Horne in connection with the shooting. Horne has been charged with murder, though officials have not released details regarding a possible motive. Police have also not confirmed whether Horne and Counts were acquainted or had any prior relationship before the fatal encounter.

The incident has deeply shaken residents of Winton Hills, a tight-knit community that has seen a rise in gun-related violence in recent months. Neighbors expressed shock at the tragedy, describing Counts as a kind and friendly young woman whose life ended far too soon. Community advocates are now calling for continued efforts to address local gun violence and provide greater support for at-risk youth.

Police said the investigation remains active as detectives continue gathering evidence, interviewing witnesses, and reviewing nearby surveillance footage to piece together the events leading up to the shooting. Officers remained at the scene late into the night, collecting shell casings and marking evidence under floodlights.
